Mythic hunting in Diablo 4 has stopped being pure slot-machine pain, but it still demands a smart routine. Patch 3.1.1 made the biggest difference by tying seasonal activities, boss access, and crafting materials into one repeatable loop, while players comparing Diablo 4 runes and other gear should remember that Mythic progress starts with the activities they can farm consistently.
The Four-Fragment Advantage
Patch 3.1.1 lowered the Horadric Cube recipe from five Pandemonium Fragments to four. That sounds small until you track a full stack: twenty fragments now fund five crafts instead of four. The saving doesn't remove RNG, but it gives every long session a little more value. The Corrupted Reaper can drop up to two fragments based on Torment level, and the repeatable Glints of Hope reputation reward provides one reliably. Deathtoll Chambers also hand out at least one Superior Lair Key at high Torment, giving seasonal play a clearer connection to Lair Boss farming.
Run Glints of Hope objectives whenever the reputation reward is available.
Fight Corrupted Reapers at the highest Torment where your clear speed stays comfortable.
Use Deathtoll Chambers to maintain Superior Lair Keys rather than saving every key indefinitely.
Keep a fragment target in mind before crafting, so one unlucky result doesn't end the session.
What Your Materials Are Really Buying
The new economy is easier to understand when separated into three steps: earn Pandemonium Fragments, open more boss opportunities, then craft within a preserved equipment slot. The recipe isn't a direct upgrade to the item you feed it. A ring input produces a ring-category result, but its complete identity and powers aren't guaranteed to remain. That makes slot choice the first decision, not the last.
Activity | Main value | Best use | Glints of Hope | Reliable fragment | Steady progress | Corrupted Reaper | Up to two fragments | Higher Torment farming | Deathtoll Chambers | Superior Lair Key | Boss preparation | Lair Bosses | Mythic drop chance | Direct loot attempts | Natural Drops Deserve Your Attention
Patch 3.1.1 restored Mythic eligibility to certain Unique sources, including Lair Bosses, which repaired a serious gap in the reward loop. It also raised the chance that a naturally found Mythic would be an Iconic Mythic, though the notes don't give an exact percentage. From what I've seen, that makes boss rotations feel better even before a craft is ready, because the same run can now produce either immediate power or materials for another attempt. El'Druin, Sword of Justice was also added to the Blacksmith's Mythic Unique Cache, fixing an omission in that reward pool.
Crossplay Is More Than a Social Setting
Diablo 4 supports crossplay and cross-progression across supported PC and console versions when players use the same game account. That matters for Mythic farming because a stable group makes repeated Torment runs and Lair rotations much less painful. Patch 3.1.0 also requires Crossplay to be active for leaderboard rewards, so competitive players should check the setting before pushing rankings. A Tower reward issue that once limited payment to one party member was corrected in patch 3.1.1, which makes mixed-platform groups more dependable.
Spend Time, Not Just Fragments
The best routine is not "craft whenever you can." Build a loop: clear reputation tasks, farm Corrupted Reapers at a sustainable pace, convert Deathtoll Chamber runs into Superior Lair Keys, and use group play for Lair Boss rotations. Keep your strongest current loadout intact while gathering materials; sacrificing a working build for a theoretical Mythic upgrade usually costs more DPS and time than it saves. The current system still has uncertainty, but patch 3.1.1 makes that uncertainty easier to absorb because progress arrives from several directions. Players who need extra preparation can also buy Diablo 4 materials, though the smarter long-term move is still choosing activities your build clears efficiently.
